SUMMARY:Labor Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Labor Day Parade will mark the 72nd year that Marlborough hosts the event which\, over the years\, has come to mark the symbolic end-of-summer. \nIn 1952\, the City’s 28th Mayor\, Romeo J. Gadbois\, enlisted the support of the Marlborough Recreation Department under the direction of Louis Ghiloni to organize the parade.  That first year the parade had 12 marching units and launched the annual tradition\, as Mayor Romeo Gadbois wanted “to brighten the lives of those living in Marlborough.” Showcased that first year were the veterans who had recently returned from serving in World War II.  The parade continued to showcase our veterans and grew to include the Drum Corps popular in the 1960’s and 70’s. \nIn recent years\, the parade has grown to include a wide variety of historical re-enactment groups\, fife & drum corps\, military color and honor guard\, drill teams and marching units\, high school and college marching bands and rock bands.  Entries include veterans\, politicians\, home and school groups\, non-profit agencies and more. \nThe Marlborough Labor Day Parade will step off at Noon on Monday\, September 2nd and follow the traditional route starting at Pleasant and Lincoln Streets\, proceeding west onto Lincoln Street\, south onto Broad Street\, east onto West Main Street.  The parade continues onto Main Street and turns south onto Maple\, ending at the intersection of Bolton Street. \nFor more information\, please contact the Mayor’s Office at 508-460-3770

DESCRIPTION:Boston’s Comedy Queen\, Christine Hurley\, returns to Apex Entertainment Marlborough on Friday\, Sept. 13 to co-headline an exceptional bill with “Best of Boston” Will Noonan and Jeff Koen\, one of New England’s best comedy hosts. \nGeneral admission tickets are $30 for the show\, or enhance your event with VIP high-top tables ($160)\, each accomodating four guests. This exclusive seating comes with a dedicated server to cater to your food and beverage needs. \nShow-only tickets are available for $35 (cash only) on the night of the show\, if seats are available. \nShowtime is 8 p.m. Doors to the private reception area open at 6\, and guests are welcome to come early to order dinner or have drinks before the show. The showroom opens at 7:30. \nAll seats are reserved. Guests must be 21+. \nChristine Hurley loves what she does…making people laugh! Married to Jimmy Hurley and having five kids\, Christine is never at a loss for comedic material. For years\, she entertained family\, friends and neighbors in their kitchens\, at barbeques and the grocery store aisles. The only difference now is she uses a microphone and a stage and has become one of the hottest comedians in the United States. Christine’s maiden voyage into the world of stand-up comedy was an open audition in New York City. The television network Nick at Nite was looking for America’s Funniest Mom. Out of thousands of entries\, Christine was selected to be a finalist on the nationally televised show. The producers of the show included Carol Leifer (Seinfeld show producer)\, Jeff Singer (talent scout\, Montreal Comedy Festival)\, Jeffrey Ross (Comedy Central roast master) and actress Sandra Bernhardt. Her stories and views on motherhood and marriage are exactly what everyone is living through…people get it and love it! Christine Hurley has quickly become a favorite in the Boston comedy world. \nWill Noonan was named “Boston’s Best Comedian” by The Improper Bostonian magazine and is sometimes known as The Honda Guy for his current job as spokesman in Honda commercials on TV and radio. He’s gained notoriety for his fan-favorite role as “the event planner” in the Netflix movie The Sleepover and has appeared in other films including the independent Salesmen\, currently in post-production. Onstage\, he’s headlined at all of the top stages in Boston and around the New England region\, and has performed on MTV‘s Ridiculousness\, Laughs on FOX\, Gotham Comedy Live on HULU. His CD gets frequent play on Sirius Satellite Radio. \nJeff Koen’s family was on America’s Funniest Home Videos and won $10\,000. Can anything be more glamorous than that? Koen often works the clubs and theaters of New England with Juston McKinney and is in constant demand as an actor on independent film projects. He’s known for his portrayal of one of the characters in the on-line cartoon Man Servants\, and for playing the offensive “Uncle Rick” in the 2010 cult film Heavy Times\, which gained him fans from all of the world\, though not very many in any one country. “A guy from Sri Lanka wanted to visit me and stay at my house\,” he said. “All he needed me to do was write a letter to the prime minister.” His work has appeared at many film festivals\, and he’s a regular performer on the Hampton Beach (NH) Comedy Festival.
